Until Frendo, the Baypen mascot, a creepy clown in a pork-pie hat, goes homicidal and decides that the only way for Kettle Springs to grow back is to cull the rotten crop of kids who live there now. It’s a fight that looks like it will destroy the town. Kettle Springs is caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress. On one side are the adults, who are desperate to make Kettle Springs great again, and on the other are the kids, who want to have fun, make prank videos, and get out of Kettle Springs as quick as they can. But ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half. Quinn and her father moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs to find a fresh start. Quinn Maybrook just wants to make it until graduation.

I try to challenge myself to come up with my own interpretations before reading anyone else’s. I didn’t read any secondary sources on these texts before writing this, and I expect there is a great deal that has been written about these very questions. And perhaps, while writing them down here, I’ll come to some further clarity. But I wanted to share some of the thoughts I came up with when thinking about it before class. We did talk a bit about this question, as it came up when a student brought up something similar in class. I puzzled over many things in these works, but the one I decided to write about here started off with me asking myself the question: this is a novel about a writer of mysteries, but is it a mystery novel itself? There's a bit too much dense scientific discussion to make it a casual read, but it does provide a useful overview of nearly all the major scientific breakthroughs from Einstein's relativity to nanotechnology. "This book is half personal bio of Feynman, half pure physics primer - maybe even more than half. Now James Gleick, author of the bestselling Chaos, unravels teh dense skein of Feynman‘s thought as well as the paradoxes of his character in a biography-which was nominated for a National Book Award-of outstanding lucidity and compassion. At the same time, the ebullient Feynman established a reputation as an eccentric showman, a master safe cracker and bongo player, and a wizard of seduction. To his colleagues, Richard Feynman was not so much a genius as he was a full-blown magician: someone who “does things that nobody else could do and that seem completely unexpected.” The path he cleared for twentieth-century physics led from the making of the atomic bomb to a Nobel Prize-winning theory of quantam electrodynamics to his devastating exposé of the Challenger space shuttle disaster. There, each of the first season’s four standalone murder mysteries span two episodes, beginning with an adaptation of Penny’s second book, “A Fatal Grace.” Those first two episodes are the weakest of the bunch as the show works to establish its characters and tone.
